Research Academic Collaborations and Partnerships

  • SALCASUN believes that lasting change in cancer prevention and care can only be achieved through strong partnerships and coordinated action. To expand access to life-saving information, screening, treatment, and support services, the organization works closely with healthcare institutions, government agencies, private sector partners, civil society organizations, and community leaders across Northern Nigeria. These collaborations strengthen community trust, improve service delivery, and ensure that women — especially those in underserved areas — receive timely and affordable care.

    A key aspect of SALCASUN’s work is partnering with hospitals, diagnostic centers, and healthcare professionals to improve access to quality screening and treatment services. Through these partnerships, women are connected to free or subsidized breast and cervical cancer screenings, clinical consultations, and referral pathways for further medical care. The organization also engages government ministries, health agencies, and local authorities to support public health campaigns, strengthen cancer control policies, and promote sustainable health interventions that reach rural and vulnerable populations.

    SALCASUN collaborates with private sector organizations and philanthropic partners to mobilize funding, technical expertise, and in-kind donations such as screening equipment, educational materials, and outreach support.

    To strengthen Through these collaborations, SALCASUN enhances community education, strengthens referral pathways, supports research and policy engagement, and ensures women receive holistic, timely, and culturally appropriate cancer care and support.the impact and sustainability of its programs, SALCASUN actively collaborates with a wide range of reputable organizations working across health, community development, research, and social support sectors.

    These partnerships enable the organization to expand outreach, share technical expertise, mobilize resources, and deliver comprehensive cancer awareness, screening, and survivor support services to communities across Northern Nigeria. Key partners include the Aminu Garba Magashi Foundation (AMG), Kano Cancer Treatment Center (KCTC), Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR), White Heart Development Initiative (WHDI), Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI), Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS), Basmallah Foundation, Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS), Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP), and the Nigerian Network of NGOs (NNGOs).

    SALCASUN is proud to collaborate with Bayero University Kano, in partnership with the University of Birmingham and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), United Kingdom, serving as community advisers on the research project “Reducing Delays in Cancer Care in Sub-Saharan Africa.” Through this collaboration, SALCASUN contributes valuable community insights, survivor perspectives, and grassroots experience that help researchers better understand the real-life barriers women face in accessing timely cancer diagnosis and treatment.

    Our role ensures that community voices — especially those of women in underserved and rural areas — are reflected in research design, outreach strategies, and policy recommendations. This partnership strengthens evidence-based advocacy, supports culturally appropriate interventions, and promotes practical solutions that improve early detection, reduce treatment delays, and enhance cancer care outcomes across the region.

    Through these collaborations, SALCASUN enhances community education, strengthens referral pathways, supports research and policy engagement, and ensures women receive holistic, timely, and culturally appropriate cancer care and support.
