Empowering Women and Girls to Fight Breast and Cervical Cancer

  • A key focus area of the organization is adolescent health education and early prevention. To date, SALCASUN has successfully provided cancer awareness and health education to over 2,500 secondary school girls, equipping them with essential knowledge on breast health, HPV, cervical cancer prevention, menstrual hygiene, self-awareness, and the importance of regular medical checkups. These school-based interventions not only improve individual awareness but also create ripple effects, as students carry vital health information back to their families and communities. By investing in young girls early, SALCASUN is helping build a generation that is informed, confident, and proactive about their health.

Beyond awareness creation, the organization connects women and girls to early detection and screening opportunities through partnerships with healthcare providers and community stakeholders. SALCASUN also provides emotional and peer support for survivors and newly diagnosed patients, fostering safe spaces where women can share experiences, reduce stigma, and regain hope and resilience. Survivors are encouraged to become advocates, mentors, and champions within their communities, strengthening grassroots cancer prevention efforts.

Through its integrated approach—combining education, prevention, psychosocial support, and community mobilization—SALCASUN continues to expand its impact and work toward a future where no woman or girl loses her life to preventable or treatable cancers due to lack of awareness, fear, or access to care. The organization remains committed to empowering communities with knowledge, strengthening health-seeking behaviors, and ensuring that women and girls across Northern Nigeria have the opportunity to live healthy, informed, and empowered lives.
