SURVIVOR & PATIENT SUPPORT GROUP

Understanding the strong connection between poverty, limited access to healthcare, and poor cancer outcomes, SALCASUN integrates economic empowerment into its holistic support programs for cancer survivors and vulnerable women. Many women affected by cancer face financi

A cancer diagnosis affects far more than physical health — it impacts emotional well-being, family stability, finances, and social relationships. Recognizing these realities, SALCASUN provides comprehensive psychosocial support services designed to help women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer, as well as their caregivers and families, navigate the emotional and practical challenges that come with the cancer journey.

Our counseling services offer safe, confidential spaces where women can express fears, manage anxiety, cope with treatment-related stress, and rebuild self-confidence. Through trained counselors, peer mentors, and survivor-led discussions, women are reassured that they are not alone. Family members and caregivers also receive guidance on how to provide emotional support, understand treatment processes, and maintain their own mental well-being while caring for loved ones.

SALCASUN facilitates survivor support networks that encourage shared learning, peer encouragement, and collective healing. These groups provide platforms where women can exchange experiences, discuss challenges openly, and celebrate recovery milestones. Survivor gatherings, wellness sessions, and educational workshops help participants develop resilience, improve mental health, and maintain a positive outlook during and after treatment.

Importantly, survivors are empowered to become community advocates and ambassadors. By sharing their stories during outreach programs, school engagements, and media campaigns, they help break the silence surrounding cancer, challenge harmful myths and stigma, and inspire other women to seek early screening and medical care.

Through compassionate psychosocial support and survivor empowerment, SALCASUN promotes healing beyond treatment — strengthening emotional resilience, restoring dignity, and fostering a supportive community where women feel understood, valued, and hopeful for the future.

al hardship during and after treatment — losing jobs, depleting savings, and struggling to provide for their families. Our empowerment initiatives are designed to restore dignity, confidence, and financial stability while helping women rebuild their lives with purpose.

Through structured vocational and skills training programs, participants learn practical income-generating skills such as craft production, tailoring, small-scale entrepreneurship, food processing, digital literacy, and financial management. These trainings are culturally relevant and accessible, especially for women in rural and underserved communities across Northern Nigeria. Beyond technical skills, SALCASUN also provides mentorship, business coaching, and financial literacy sessions that equip women to manage small businesses, save responsibly, and plan for sustainable livelihoods.

We collaborate with local trainers, women’s groups, cooperatives, and private sector partners to create pathways for employment and market access. Survivors are encouraged to become peer mentors and community advocates, transforming their personal journeys into sources of inspiration and leadership. By empowering women economically, SALCASUN not only improves household resilience but also strengthens community health outcomes — enabling women to afford routine screenings, access medical care, and support other women in their communities.

Ultimately, our Women’s Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Support program ensures that surviving cancer is not just about living — it is about thriving with independence, renewed confidence, and hope for a healthier future.
